After a disappointing result against Laois, Carlow Senior Football Manager Niall Carew has shifted focus to Sunday’s encounter at home to Leitrim at 2pm in Netwatch Cullen Park.
However it wasn’t before pointing out his obvious disappointment at the result in O’Moore Park and in particular a key moment in the first half
“Obviously we’re very disappointed with the decision that would have put us seven points up with Jordan Morrissey’s goal.”
“That should have been allowed. And then, to make matters worse it should have been a black card, at the very least and it should have been a penalty.” he said.
Carew was adamant that the appropriate action wasn’t taken.
“That’s the two rules. But none of those rules were enforced and you can quote me on that and that’s so disappointing.”
He also felt that key chances missed were an issue on the night.
“I thought we controlled the first half for long, long periods – the first 25 minutes, obviously we went five points ahead and it was a great performance by the team.
“Second half, we missed 1-3 early on and in those ten minutes they scored 1-4. And literally, that’s what cost us, we went into our shells after that.”
Attention now turns to a high flying Leitrim side on Sunday who have full points so far.
“Look, all is not lost. The biggest game now is obviously the Leitrim one. If we beat them, it’s in our own hands again.” he concluded.
