2024 Talbot Hotel IFC Group 1 Round 3

Naomh Eoin 6-14, St Mullins 0-6

By Stephen Bambrick

Consecutive goals from Adam Kenny and Diego Dunne (following a barnstorming run) in the 9th minute killed off this IFC encounter. It was a rare sight to see no hurls involved, given their great hurling rivalry.

You could say Netwatch Cullen Park was both cashless and ashless for this one!

St Mullins should have had a couple of scores early on, one probably a goal, before Scott Tracey opened the scoring with Paddy Boland replying immediately in the 4th minute. But once that brace of goals arrived, the outcome was inevitable. Adding seven points spread between four players and Tracey netting on HT left it 3-8 to 0-3.

The lively James Smithers helped himself to 2-2 when introduced for Naomh Eoin by the game’s end. John Michael scored the other goal, while Chris Kavanagh had all of St Mullins’ second-half scores. Kyle Foley kept his goal intact with a fine double save from Kavanagh. The full-time score was 6-14 to 0-6, with Naomh Eoin on their way to the quarter-final and St Mullins heading for the relegation final.
