A lop sided Group 1 opening and polar opposite Group 2 stanza.
IFC Group 1
Kildavin/ Clonegal 3-13
Naomh Eoin 0-8
A hat trick of Daryl Roberts goals, his 2nd on the stroke of half time ( 2-8 to 0-3 ) effectively clinched the points for a dominant Kildavin/Clonegal here. The searing runs of his namesake Liam allied to the impressive debutant Jake Nolan up front the platform for their victory, 3-10 of their total between the 3. Naomh Eoin’s total coming through Donal Smithers, the Tracey’s , Cathal and Scott, 3-13 to 0-8
Kildavin/Clonegal – D Roberts 3-0, J Nolan 0-7( 0-5f), L Roberts 0-3, L McGuill 0-2 ( 0-1f) , N Hickey
Naomh Eoin – C Tracey 0-4 (0-2f), D Smithers 0-3 (0-2f), S Tracey 0-1
Referee Seamie Doyle
Footnote – great to see Gerard Kavanagh back on the Naomh Eoin sideline , while on the Kildavin Clonegal one was Willie Hickey who played in goal for MLR in the following SFC game
In the other Group 1 encounter Fenagh ran out 3-12 to 0-3 winners over a depleted St Mullins side fresh from their SHC success just five days previous. Adam Smyth bagged two goals for Fenagh with Padraig Hynes getting the other.
In Group 2 we had two seriously tight affairs at NCP on Sunday. St Patrick’s edged out Eire Og by 2-9 to 2-8. Eire Og goal scorer Jack Feehan had an effort to level it ruled wide at the end so last years beaten finalists held on for the win.
The other game produced another entertaining encounter between Grange and Ballinabranna. Grange edged last year’s knockout game by a point and this time they didn’t have much extra to spare in the end as it finished 3-7 to 2-8.
