2024 Carlow IFC Round 2 recap and Round 3 permutations

By Kevin Regan

With one Round to go in the Talbot Hotel Carlow Intermediate Football Championship, the picture is starting to become a little clearer although not fully transparent just yet.

In Group 2, Grange’s 1-14 to 0-12 over neighbours St Patrick’s means they go straight into the Semi Final’s as they can’t be headed after also defeating Ballinabranna.

Grange produced an unbelievable second half out scoring Tullow by 0-10 to 0-02. Ned Pender popped up with a goal once more with Grange initially struggling a bit. Henry Hegarty and Tom Dillon saw good goal chances well saved by the Tullow goalkeeper Gerry McGill. Shane Cormican’s point was a particular highlight in this one.

Brian Byrne hit 5 points from play for St Patricks in the first half, with his side’s clash against Ballinabranna set to determine who finishes 2nd and 3rd. Ballinabranna’s narrow win over Eire Og means the latter are in the relegation final regardless of their game against Grange this weekend – see Ballinabranna v Eire Og report HERE.

GROUP 2 Round 3 Fixtures

Grange v Eire Og – Saturday 7th Sept at 3pm – Netwatch Cullen Park

St Patricks v Ballinabranna – Saturday 7th Sept at 3.40pm – Training Centre

In Group 1 it’s set to be a straight shootout between Kildavin/Clonegal and Fenagh for top spot this weekend.

Fenagh had a narrow 1-14 to 2-7 win over Naomh Eoin, while K/C throttled St Mullins 5-16 to 1-1.

St Mullins could still make the quarter finals with a win over Naomh Eoin this weekend. However Naomh Eoin would only need a draw to progress.

A draw for K/C against Fenagh would also see them straight through to the Semi Finals on score difference.

GROUP 1 Round 3 Fixtures

St Mullins v Naomh Eoin – Friday 6th Sept at 7.15pm – Netwatch Cullen Park

Kildavin/Clonegal v Fenagh – Saturday 7th Sept at 3.30pm – Training Centre
