SETU Carlow go in search of an All Ireland Freshers Football title tonight when they host MIC at 7pm.
Eire Og’s Christy Bolger is Manager of the side and ably assisted along with another Left Wing Back regular in James Clarke, Paul Fahy and Damian Farrell.
The side began their prep back in September.
They enjoyed a fruitful league campaign losing out to DITK on penalties after drawing 1-19 apiece after extra time.
Their Championship endeavours have been borne on a tight knit group that are all singing off the same hymn sheet.
“We’ve a nice mix in the squad. They give you absolutely everything,” said Bolger.
“I think everyone has bought into it and is going in the right direction and looking for the same thing.”
There’s lots of local representation with Mark Mullen of Tinryland anchoring the side from centre back. Aaron Power of O’Hanrahans and Adam Budzisz of Bagenalstown Gaels have battled it out for the goalkeeping position, Eoin Corcoran of Rathvilly is also in the spine of the team and several others are in the squad as well.
Some of those just across the bridge in Laois include Mikee Horohan, Jack Byrne and Sean McGrath of Graiguecullen along with Brendan McDonald and Daniel McGrath of Killeshin.
“It’s really nice to have local lads involved and having SETU on our doorstep is massive, it makes it all the more special, it’s a great place, the facilities are incredible and it means that bit more when it’s local.
“It’s also great for families to come and see the final nearby.” Bolger said.
“We’re happy to have a strong squad and having options off the bench has been massive for us this year. The pace is frantic in these games and having that depth has been our strongest point this year.
“We haven’t thrown in the towel in any game, lads are willing to roll up their sleeves and fight for the team and we are lucky to have inherited that.
“We want to make hay when the sun shines with this talented group.” he concluded.
Throw in on the SETU Carlow main campus pitch is at 7pm tonight.
