Kilkenny Hurling legend Eoin Larkin has strongly criticised the GAA for not doing enough around the promotion of Hurling, particularly when it comes to TV coverage.
Hurling supporters far and wide have voiced their frustration over the manner in which some games are behind a paywall and that some aren’t available to view either on RTÉ or the GAA GO streaming platform.
Speaking on The Left Wing Back Podcast this week, Larkin feels that a lot more can be done.
“I really think, especially with RTÉ and GAA GO, all games should be shown.
“Then on a Sunday night, you know, there should be decent coverage of all games.” he said
“You (GAA) need to promote this. For the likes of Carlow and Antrim and these teams coming into the Liam McCarthy, this is what they want.
“They want the exposure, but the GAA don’t seem to get that. They just seem to want all the bigger teams and analyse all the big games. It should be across the board and it’s not and that’s a fault of the GAA.” he added.
Larkin also feels that having games on at the same days and times is something that can be fixed quite easily.
“All the games should be spread out so that if lads want to go to maybe two games at the weekend, yes, we can get them there. It’s not like that. And something needs to be done on that point. What can be done? Well, they can certainly be spaced out.
The James Stephens clubman reckons that these issues are long term ones.
“This has been a problem over the last 25 years.
“I don’t know what the marketing people in the GAA are at, but they’re not doing a good job,” said Larkin.
