Andrew Corden Cup Q-Final
Carlow 3-10
Offaly 0-10
A brace of goals from Liam Gavin was key as Carlow progressed to the semi finals of the Andrew Corden cup on Tuesday evening at SETU.
Having been largely competitive in the Leinster Championship proper, Carlow didn’t get the benefit of the results, but they made no mistake on this occasion and this will have done a lot to restore confidence in what is a very talented group of players.
Both of Gavin’s goals came in the first half and were tidy indeed.
John Phiri’s leap to keep the ball in play was noteworthy for the second one.
Carlow held a 2-6 to 0-3 lead at the break, Kyle Nolan bagging a few points, Gavin likewise, with Kieran Nolan also among the scorers.
When Cialan Brady nailed Carlow’s third goal after the break it was well and truly game over and in fairness to Carlow they didn’t let the foot off the accelerator at all before the finish.
Brandon Kelly and Shane Cormican were the other point scorers on the night.
Next up is a clash with Westmeath.
Carlow: Aaron Power; Kieran Nolan (0-1), James Whelan, Shane Cormican (0-1); Mark Mullen, Alex Delaney, Tom Dillon; Kyle Nolan (0-3), Adam Burgess; Brandon Kelly (0-1), Cialan Brady (1-0), Josh Egan; Josh Brady, John Phiri, Liam Gavin 2-4 (0-3f). Subs: Jake Nolan for Josh Brady, Evan Corr for Josh Egan, Cillian McGrath for Tom Dillon, Eoin Corcoran for Kyle Nolan.
